Frustration and Fear. Are They a Felony?

Or pre-cursors to freedom?

Frustration and Fear - two ‘F’ words that are seen as the enemy.

Frustration and Fear - two uninvited guests that bring grit, tension and overwhelm to the table that certainly get our attention.

Emotions like sadness and grief can be avoided, distracted from, but we cannot pass go with Frustration and Fear.

There is no person nor subject matter that Frustration and Fear do not visit.  Relationship, money, illness, business, career, parenting…..Frustration and Fear exist everywhere.

But are they the enemy, really?

What if Frustration and Fear were in fact catalysts for a re-birth?

Whether we’re waking up for the first time, or waking up to further nuances of who we are, there’s a saying that sometimes ‘we need to be shaken to awaken’.

Sometimes the shell of our identity needs to be cracked open to show us a few things.

Firstly to invite us to look over our shoulder and see a version of ourselves that is no longer required.

And to say to that version ‘thank you for your service but your services are no longer required.  Thank you for your kind intention to keep me safe but these boundaries that constrain and contain me are now made redundant.’

I have just finished facilitating a retreat nine months into the first Sacred Leaders Program at the very spectacular Spring Bay Mill in Tasmania, an events venue created from love, generosity and vision that was previously the world’s largest saw mill. One of the sacred leaders, someone who’d formerly worked in the political space said goodbye to a version of herself that she defined as being ‘hard’. She didn't say goodbye with judgment however. She said goodbye with gratitude and reverence for what that ‘hardness’ enabled including the life she created with her daughter and now family. It was a beautiful, tender moment.

Just like windscreen wipers create clarity to see what lies ahead, as we say goodbye with love our vision becomes clear, clean and the new emerges.

I have the privilege of coaching people who have been diagnosed with cancer and motor neurone disease.

I have the privilege of coaching those whose lives have become so overwhelming that they have been on the verge of taking their life.

I have the privilege of coaching those facing bankruptcy, separation and divorce.

With these extreme cases, of course Fear roars.

But even in these extreme cases warranting such Fear in the human experience, when presented with the idea that this is in fact a time of re-birth (and perhaps said in different words), this becomes the life force through which their life is navigated which becomes free and purposeful and even peaceful. This is a far more powerful orientation than one of victimhood and powerlessness which is by largely the default response even in the medical system.

We might not all have the illness that is called cancer. But we all have cancers in our lives that manifest in Fear and Frustration.

If this is currently in your world, or in the people of your world, allow me to offer you the perception that this is actually a time of re-birth.

This re-birth is built on the letting go of an identity that has kept you safe and on the foundations of who you have already become.  No matter the content and story of your life, this re-birth honours all that has been, all that is, the work, the devotion and the commitment that has brought you here to this moment right now.

And it seeks for you to become more.

This re-birth seeks expansion of the quantum kind.

In the Year of the Dragon, a year of power, strength and wisdom, this re-birth is founded on a depth and breadth created through all your experience and wisdom amassed. This re-birth has a particular purpose to ‘mission you up’ because it wants you to see that you have greater capacity and capability than you thought. It is breathing fire at you to let you know without ambiguity that you have important work to do always starting with self and sacred work to do with your family, business, community, relationship and beyond.

Perhaps you have already fulfilled so much of your soul contract but there’s more.

And without our fine friends of Frustration and Fear you would have not be hearing the call.
