I woke up this morning remembering a powerful time I had with a client during Covid. We were in lockdown. People were in fear. All of sudden we didn’t have the freedom that we once did. Life had become very, very odd.
He was consulting to a major charity. He came to the call frightened. He’d made an assumption that because the environment was impacted by Covid that his team would not meet their sales targets.
Fear breeds fear.
I saw it differently.
People were less busy. We were working from home. We couldn’t enjoy our social lives like we did before. Some people felt alone, isolated. Others enjoyed the quiet and loved that they had more time with their families.
I made the proposal that the opportunity for donations was even greater now, the opposite to how he’d seen it. What if the slowing down actually created the space to listen and to care for other things beside ourselves?
Seeing it this way was the one shift in perception he needed for the major breakthrough he then experienced.
My friend brought this to the sales team. And guess what happened?
It became a record breaking time for donations into the charity; a charity that does some pretty vital work in disability.
I’m sorry if this sounds crass but they could have tried to slap on a new mindset like having ‘a winning mindset’. They could have tried to slap on a strategy like a ‘discounted donations’ strategy.
But he went within instead.
He took responsibility about feeling powerless.
He had an energetic shift in perception and he felt free and powerful.
And they had their record breaking time in donations.
Summary — The answer is so much more simple than you think. But it requires humility first.
