You Earn The Right To Be A Leader
Because you empower or disempower through your self-leadership (or lack thereof)
If you’re in a position of leadership, leadership is not a God given right.
It’s a privilege.
It’s a privilege because of the impact on peoples’ lives. That impact creates ripples of empowerment or ripples that disempower. And if disempowered, that state of mind comes home to the family, and that has a life of its own. 🥲
Leadership is earnt.
We earn the right to lead from the devotion and discipline of leading self, of knowing our shortcomings and blindspots, not just at times of performance review, but deep within us because WE want to know.
We earn the right to lead from the devotion and discipline of keeping our fears, limited perception and world views in check, so we are not passing the parcel of devolution.
We earn the right to lead from the devotion and discipline of growing ourselves, meeting and valuing our Genius and God Zones, our authenticity and spirit. As we show others that we are enough, just as we are, this is medicine for others who believe that they aren't.
We earn the right to lead from the discipline and devotion to lifting the game, to experiencing results we’ve not yet had the privilege of experiencing, in ways we’ve not yet enjoyed, so that we demonstrate that others can do the same.
If you’re a leader and work for a company, you might say it’s the company’s responsibility to provide coaching.
You could wait for the opportunity.
Or YOU could take responsibility to lead with integrity.
Amongst the people I coach are physicians and psychologists. They literally have peoples’ lives in their hands.
They coach for all the reasons above. They know what a privilege it is to have people in their care. They empower or disempower simply through the awareness and consciousness they orient from.
A client who went into radical remission from stage 4 breast cancer met with a junior oncologist. Whilst her PET scan results showed she was cancer free two months ago, this junior oncologist said that cancer will always live with her, that she will never be free from it. Total derailment and collapse. 🥲
In 2019 I had the great privilege of coaching someone who had just been diagnosed with motor neurone disease. Despite his illness being terminal, and not knowing how long he had, he chose to coach as he believed it was his 'time to shine'. And that he did.
He contributed to the conversation around the assisted dying laws in NSW. He passed away 18 months after the filming of this video which has 124,000 views.
Now if someone who is terminally ill makes his inner game as important as his medical treatment plan, and this isn't the most inspiring demonstration of self-responsibility, I don't know what is.
Excuses are excuses.
Anthony had every reason to make excuses and resign. But instead he lead with integrity right until the very end, and showed us all how to live.
May you have been shaken & stirred.
